Indian Cricket Board AGM in Bengaluru on September 29; secretary election not an agenda

The Annual General Meeting of the Indian Cricket Board for Cricket in India will be held in Bengaluru on September 29. The notices for the AGM have been dispatched to the state associations on Thursday (September 5) morning. The 93rd Annual meeting will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bengaluru and will clash with the inauguration of the High-Performance Centre in the city.

A notable feature of the AGM notice is the absence of the election for a board secretary on the agenda. It was expected that the new secretary would be elected at the AGM after the election of Jay Shah as the independent chairman of the International Cricket Board.

The Indian Cricket Board will now have to call a Special General Meeting (SGM) to elect the new secretary, sensibly before Shah is due to take charge as the International Cricket Board chairman on December 1.

The 18-point agenda includes the usual items typically discussed and decided at the AGM, such as the appointment of a representative to the International Cricket Board. It could be a significant call this year given Shah will no longer be eligible to represent the Indian Cricket Board at the global body. The Board will have to nominate a candidate who is knowledgeable and familiar with what goes on in the International Cricket Board.

The election and induction of two representatives of the general body in the governing council of the Ind T20 League, induction of one representative from the Indian Cricketers’ Association in the Ind T20 League Governing Council, adoption of the annual budget, appointment of Ombudsman and Ethics Officer are the other items on the agenda. The AGM will also be responsible for appointing a Umpires Committee and Standing Committee as mentioned in the Constitution.

Of significance is an item that states “Report of the Internal Committee of the Indian Cricket Board formed under Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy. The AGM will also consider any notice provided by a Full Member to the secretary 21 days before the AGM. It will also confirm the rules devised by the Apex Council, predominantly concerning domestic cricket.
