Francesco Acerbi forced out of Italy Squad for Euro 2024

Inter defender Francesco Acerbi has been forced to withdraw from the Italy squad for Euro 2024 due to injury. Juventus centre back Federico Gatti has been called up in lieu. 

The 30-man squad is meant to gather up at the Coverciano training ground on Friday to commence their preparations for the showpiece event. 

Luciano Spalletti had summoned a 30 man long-list, which will need to be cut down to 26 for the competition in earnest. 

Acerbi had been named after winning the Scudetto and Supercoppa Italiana with Inter this swanson, but as per the official statement on the FICG website he has had to pull out of the competition due to a groin pain.  

It is reported that he will undergo surgery on Friday to completely sort out the issue for the start of the next season. 

Juventus centre back Gatti has been put on alert by Italy boss Spalletti, and it is yet to be seen whether Gatti will in point of fact join the other members of the Italy squad. 

Italy have Spain, Croatia and Albania in their group.
