Abhishek Sharma calls this Indian Legend after smashing his maiden ton
India debutant Abhishek Sharma video-called his mentor Yuvraj Singh and his family to share his excitement after smashing a roaring hundred against Zimbabwe in the T20I match at the Harare Sports Club on July 7. Abhishek’s family was all smiles as they celebrated his achievement via a video call, congratulating him for the amazing feat.
The 23-year-old Punjab batter was connected with his mentor and ex-Indian legend Yuvraj Singh, who congratulated Abhishek for his 46-ball hundred after scoring a duck in the first match.
The Indian Apex Council shared a special interview with Abhishek Sharma after his match-defining performance for India in his second international appearance. The young opening batter revealed that he used the Indian skipper and close friend Shubman Gill’s bat for the match.
Abhishek shared his feelings after smashing a few boundaries with Gill’s bat, he knew it was his day and he tried to make the most of the opportunity. His stellar performance made him earn the Player of the Match award as Team India levelled the series 1-1 with a dominant 100-run win over the hosts.
“Well done; I’m quite happy. You were worthy of it. “This is just the beginning, there will be many more,” Yuvraj expressed in the video call with Abhishek Sharma.“After the match, I called Yuvi Paji, and to my surprise, he was elated. He expressed that it was a good start, which I believe made him proud, just as my family is. I’m overjoyed, as this success is largely due to Yuvi Paji’s unwavering support and guidance over the past 2-3 years. He has dedicated himself tirelessly, not just to improving my cricket skills, but also to my overall development off the field. This is truly a special occasion,” he claimed.
Abhishek Sharma bounced back in his second match with a fabulous hundred which was also the third-fastest century for India. He brought up his maiden T20I half-century in just 33 balls and then converted it into a three-digit score in a shocking 13 deliveries. The next young talent fired three consecutive sixes to reach the record.
