Ajit Agarkar is set to be the assistant coach of the Delhi franchise
Ajit Agarkar has been selected as the assistant coach of the Delhi franchise
There were rumours in the market that one of the senior players in the Indian squad wants Ajit Agarkar to be the bowling consultant of the national side in the T20 world Series. Fate however brought him to Delhi as Ajit Agarkar is all set to be the assistant coach of the Delhi franchise. The former Indian pacer will join the team after Sri Lanka’s tour to India, where he will be working as a commentator.
Mohammed Kaif is no longer a part of the Delhi set-up and thus Ajit Agarkar will play a huge role to select and groom Indian talents. “Agarkar and Capitals have sealed the deal. The announcement will be made soon. Agarkar will get into the bubble immediately after the Sri Lanka series”, a source told Times of India.
His impact in the Indian T20 League can also help him get back to the national team as a pace bowling consultant for the T20 World Series in Australia. He is in competition with Zaheer Khan and one of them is very likely to take the role. Zaheer is currently with the Mumbai franchise and is the director of cricket of the team.
“Nothing has been decided yet. The board has not received any request from the team management yet. Paras Mhambrey is doing a fine job as a bowling coach. He will be around. To get added services of senior pros who have bowled in high-pressure World Series’ could be beneficiary. It’s all an idea. But with both Agarkar and Zaheer working with Indian T20 League teams. It’s very unlikely that the franchises will release either of them. One has to be very careful with the conflict-of-interest clause”, the source added.
