Argentina qualifies for the next round of Copa America

The Argentine national team has successfully secured a place in the last 8 of the 2024 Copa America. This certainty was obtained after Lionel Messi and his teammates won a victory over Chile on Wednesday(26th June). The World Champions met Chile on the second matchday of Group A at the MetLife Stadium, the match was quite tight, with Chile choosing to 'park' the bus and failing to shoot in the first half.

The Roja's tight defense was only dismantled by Argentina in the 88th minute. Starting from Lionel Messi's corner kick, there was chaos and Lautaro Martinez grabbed the ball for a goal with a score line of 1-0. This result makes Argentina now lead the Group A standings with six points. In the first match, Argentina won 2-0 over Canada.

All Group A contestants have played two matches. Now, Argentina is at the top of the standings with six points. Canada (3 points), Chile (1 point) and Peru (1 point) are behind Lionel Scaloni's troops. Argentina still has one game, and so do other teams. On the third matchday, La Albiceleste will face Peru.

This match is no longer decisive for the Argentine camp because La Albiceleste qualified for the Top 8 round. Argentina could not be overtaken in points by Chile and Peru even though they lost on the third matchday. The current World Champions only needs a draw to qualify as the winner of Group A, if that happens, Argentina will meet the Group B runners-up in the Top 8 round. The opponents that will be faced are Venezuela, Mexico, Ecuador and Jamaica.

Like Argentina, Brazil is also one of the favourites in the 2024 Copa America. However, the two countries have different fates in the group phase, the defending Champions are progressing smoothly. Winning their first two Group A matches and advancing to the round of 16. Meanwhile, Brazil has had a study start to their Copa America journey. Being in Group D, Brazil drew 0-0 against Costa Rica on the first matchday. On the second matchday, Brazil will meet Paraguay, if they fail to win this match, the scenario of qualifying for the Top 8 round will be quite complicated.
