Super 4s: Match 1- PAK vs. BAN

From six Asian teams competing for the coveted title, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka are the four sides who have reached the Super Four of the Asia ODI Series 2023. The inaugural encounter of the Super Four will be between Pakistan and Bangladesh which is scheduled at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Wednesday, September 6.

Pakistan humiliated Nepal in the first game of the tournament, winning by a huge margin of 238 runs. Babar Azam and Iftikhar Ahmed smashed centuries and Shadab Khan’s magical spell earned him a four-fer. In their next fixture, the Men in Green faced their arch-rivals India. Babar Azam and Co. were successful in stopping the top order but eventually, the threat came as Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan came to bat. The lower-order duo cruised India to a total score of 267. However, the rain stopped the game in the second half and the match was called off. 

Bangladesh started their 2023 Asia ODI Series campaign with a loss against Sri Lanka by 5 wickets. They were bowled out for just 164 runs with 11 overs left. In search for a win, they faced Afghanistan in their second match in which Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto stepped up and registered two centuries. While chasing the huge target of 335, the Afghan Pathans failed in front of the Bangla Tigers and were bundled out for just 245 runs.

Pitch and Weather Conditions

The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore  Stadium has long boundaries, also the outfield is quick, which results in the batsmen scoring more runs here. This surface isn’t for the pacers and hence they shouldn’t think of getting rewarded much. But spinners will trouble batsmen as the ball grips and turns on this pitch swiftly.

Lahore will have an overcast sky on the matchday, and there is speculation about downpours. The skipper winning the toss will be choosing to bat first and a score of 280 runs shall be enough to defend on this ground.

The Bangla Tigers has a powerful bowling attack, but their batters haven’t been much consistent in the last few months. The top order must bat well in order to put pressure Pakistan under pressure. The hosts on the other hand are in sublime touch and are the Number 1 side in ODIs. They also come with balanced batting and bowling attacks which makes them the favourites to win this match.
