Atletico Madrid beats Feyenoord Rotterdam to pick the third win of the season

Several teams have ensured that they qualify for the last 16 of the 2023/2024 Champions League on matchday 5. One of them is the Spanish side Atletico Madrid, who are still unbeaten in their group so far. Atletico visited Feyenoord's headquarters in their fifth match in Group E, on Wednesday (29/11/2023). Diego Simeone's team won with a score of 3-1 against the Dutch club.

Atletico's three goals came from Lutsharel Geertruida in the 14th minute (suicide), Mario Hermoso in the 57th minute and Santiago Gimenez in the 81st minute (suicide). One Feyenoord goal was scored by Mats Wieffer in the 77th minute. Atletico (11 points) qualified together with Lazio (10 points), while Feyenoord (6 points) are certain to finish third and advance to the Europa League. Celtic (1 point) must be willing to finish in the bottom position even though there is still one matchday remaining.

Atletico and Lazio are the two representatives from Group E who have qualified for the round of 16. However, it is not certain which of them will be the group winner and runner-up. Atletico is currently at the top with a lead of just one point over Lazio. The final matchday match between Atletico and Lazio will be very decisive. As long as they can maintain their unbeaten record, Atletico will finish in the top position. Can they do it?
