Aus-T20 League 2024/25

Challenger: SIX vs THU

Preview

We’re down to the final three in the Australian T20 League 2024/2025.  The Challenger of this edition will feature the iconic Sydney Derby. Sydney Thunder (THU) have earned a spot here by beating Melbourne Stars (STA) in the Knockout Match. Sydney Sixers (SIX) on the other hand were defeated by Hobart Hurricanes (HUR) in the Qualifier but since finished second on the table at the end of the league phase, will have another shot at the final.

Both teams will try their best to emerge victorious in the match and secure a place in the Final. SIX won 6 and THU won 5 out of their 10 games in the league stage. Henriqiues and co won the last time these two sides met.

SIX started their Aus-T20 League 2024/25 campaign with a clinical 5 wicket victory over Melbourne Renegades (REN). In the last match against HUR (Qualifier) they failed to chase down a total of 174 runs. Kurtis Patterson (48) and Jordan Silk(57) were the only positives in the batting department from that game. Ben Dwarshius and Jafer Chohan were impressive with ball in hand as both picked two wickets apiece.

Like their city rivals, THU began their 2024/25 Aus-T20 League campaign with a win. The men in green edged past Adelaide Strikers (STR) in their opening game. They outplayed Melbourne Stars (STA) to book a place in the Challenger. Nathan McAndrew took a fifer to rip apart STA’s batting lineup while defending 135. Oliver Davies (36) was the top scorer for THU in that game. Ahead of this enthralling clash, let us have a look at how the two sides will fare out on Friday.

Match Details

Match: SIX vs THU, Challenger, Aus-T20 League 2024-25
Date: Friday, January 24, 2025
Time: 1:45 PM
Venue: Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney

Pitch and Weather Report

The SCG usually favours batters and the Aus-T20 League also saw its fair share of high scoring matches where the average is around 190. Spin bowlers are likely to play a critical role on this wicket in the second innings, particularly given the possible wear and tear on the surface from recent cricket action. Chasing teams have found success at this venue thus we expect the captain winning the toss to bowl first.

Mostly cloudy day with a 27% rain chance is the weather forecast for the day.

Match Prediction

THU have struggled with their form. They have blown hot and cold this season and overall lack depth in their squad. Their batting department looks thin and they overdepend on their skipper David Warner up top.

We are backing SIX to win this clash.
