AUS T20 League 2024-2025

Final: HUR vs THU

Preview

After more than a month of intense battle, Hobart Hurricanes will square off against Sydney Thunder for the final match of the Australia T20 League 2024-25. The Bellerive Oval will play the game on Monday, January 27, at 01:45 PM IST.

The league toppers Hurricanes have been phenomenal with their performance across all the departments this season. Ben McDermott and Caleb Jewell strengthened the opening stand, whereas the middle order was balanced with the support of Tim David and Matthew Wade. Skipper Nathan Ellis has been a reliable leader, leading their bowling attack with the services of players like Peter Hatzoglou and Riley Meredith. HUR will be playing at their home stadium, which they will definitely exploit.

On the contrary, the Thunders’ under the leadership of David Warner, have been one of the best-performing sides this season. Finishing third in the league stage, they defeated Melbourne Stars in the Knockout round by 21 runs and later dominated the Sixers by a 4-wicket margin in the Challenger to reach the finals.

After restricting SIX to only 151 runs in the Challenger round, aided by Wes Agar and Tom Andrews, who each took two wickets, THU concluded the match in just 18.5 overs, with Sam Billings as the top scorer, remaining unbeaten on 42 from only 29 deliveries.

Warner’s performance in the top order has been a crucial gain for the whole team. He has been getting continuous support from Jason Sangha and Sam Billings in the middle order. The bowling side has the services of Wes Agar, Chris Green and Tanveer Sangha, who are very efficient in picking up timely wickets. With a squad full of in-from players, the Thunders will definitely take advantage and go home with the trophy.

Pitch Report

The pitch at the Bellerive Oval is usually most suitable for batters. The ground is small and is famous for registering high-scoring encounters. The fast bowlers will experience good swing and pace at the beginning of the innings. The captain winning the toss would like to chase the target.

The weather at Hobart is becoming increasingly unpredictable, with overcast skies and darkening clouds looming overhead. The average temperature during the game is expected to be around 28 degrees Celsius, but rain is likely, raising concerns about interruptions to the match.

Match Prediction

The stage is set for the final battle between the Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers. While the Hurricanes have won four of their last five games, the Thunders have managed three wins in the same number of games, with two being cancelled due to rain. In their previous head-to-head battle, HUR secured a comfortable six-wicket victory. Both sides are stepping into the final game with many positives, and the match could end up in anyone’s pocket. However, the Nathan Ellis-led Hurricanes, who topped the league stage with their splendid all-round performance, seem to have some edge being the home side and are expected to win the match ahead of Thunders’ led by David Warner.
