AUS tour of IND 2023

IND vs AUS, 1st ODI

Preview

Team India is all set to host Australia for the 3-match ODI series ahead of the ODI World Series 2023. Men In Blue under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma recently won the Asia ODI series 2023 by humiliating Sri Lanka in the final of the tournament. However, team India will be heading for this series with multiple experiments as big faces such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya have been rested for the first 2-matches of the series. The core team will return, however, for the final ODI of the series. In the absence of the regular captain of team India, KL Rahul will lead the side. He will be accompanied by the likes of Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and other key players. The first match of the series will take place at Mohali Stadium, Punjab on Friday, 22nd September 2023.

Talking about the performance of the team India in the Asia ODI Series final, India won that match by 10 wickets in the finals. India was forced to bowl first in this match and got the opposition all out for a mere 50 runs in just 15.2 overs. The current number one ODI bowler Mohammed Siraj was sensational as he wrecked havoc with his pace and swing while picking up 6 wickets for just 21 runs in the mega match. Siraj was well supported by Hardik Pandya too chipped in with 3 wickets to crucify SL's batting order. It did not take long for the Indian openers to get the job done as they finished the match within 7 overs to claim their 8th Asia ODI trophy. Both the openers Gill and Kishan were on point and finished the match without losing any wickets.

On the other hand, the Visitors, Australia lost their previous match by 122 runs against the Proteas and lost the series by 3-2. AUS bowled first in this match and conceded 315 runs in the innings. The leg-spinner Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers as he took 3 wickets by conceding 70 runs. He was assisted by Sean Abbott who claimed 2 wickets for 54 runs in 10 overs. The batting was not up to the mark as the Visitors failed to even come close to the target. Aussie skipper Mitchell Marsh was the top scorer for the team as he scored 71 off 56 balls but could not help his side cross the line. The right-handed batter Marnus Labuschagne scored 44 off 63 balls but it was never enough in the context of the match.

Australia will be eyeing to win this ODI against India after the Hosts' major players have been rested from the squad. The Visitors have a good chance to become the number one ODI side in the world if they win this series against India and vice-versa if India wins the series they will become the number one side in the world as well. Aussies will be led by their gun bowler Pat Cummins, who will be supported by the likes of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and others. In the batting department, they have the luxury of batters like David Warner, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, and other hard hitters of the ball such as Marcus Stoinis and Cameroon Green.

Both sides have faced each other in 146 matches in ODI. Out of these 146 matches, IND has won 54 whereas AUS has won on 82 occasions. 10 matches ended without a result. IND and AUS have played 67 ODI matches against each other in India, where the Hosts won 32 matches, while the Visitors won 30 while five matches ended in no result.

Match Prediction

It is going to be a spicy contest between the two giant sides in the cricket world. Though the visitors have the upper hand on paper, beating India at home it's not a cup of tea for everyone. IND and AUS have played 67 ODI matches against each other in India, where the Hosts won 32 matches, while the Visitors won 30 while five matches ended in no result. However, we believe the full-strength Australian side may humble team India in the first contest of the series.
