Australia names revised squad ahead of the third T20I match against India
Team Australia made wholesome changes to their T20I squad for the remainder of matches against India. Six of their recently concluding World Cup-winning players have been released from the squad.
Cricket Australia decided to rest six of their 7 players who are also members of their recently triumphed World Cup. Out of those, Steve Smith and Adam Zampa have already departed while Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Sean Abbott will get back home on Wednesday after taking part in the third T20I at Guwahati on Tuesday. Their management came to a conclusion to provide rest to the players who have been in India for more than two months now. Many of these players were also part of the squad in the three-match ODI series against India in the follow-up to the World Cup ODI 2023.
The only member of the World Cup-winning squad who will be with the team is Travis Head. He won the Man of the Match for his blistering knock in the final game of the World Cup. Head is all set to open for the Kangaroos in the third T20I in which they will look for a win in order to stay as relevant contenders in the five-match T20I series.
Talking about the replacements, wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Phillippe and Ben McDermott have joined the squad in Guwahati. Also, Ben Dwarshuis and off-spinner Chris Green are possible options to join the squad before the fourth T20I in Raipur on Wednesday.
Green will possibly debut in the fourth match as the team management felt to include a finger spinner in their list which is the need of the hour now.
