Australia takes a 2-1 lead, crushing India by 184 runs in the 4th Test

The hosts, Australia, sealed a fantastic 184-run win over India in the 4th Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy at the Iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, assessing a 2-1 lead in the 2024-25 season of the series. The match testified to Australia’s dominance with all-round performances from both the bat and the ball.

The Kangaroos set a perfect tone in the first innings of the fourth match, with Steve Smith taking charge with a remarkable score of 140. Marnus Labuschagne contributed another 72, while debutant Sam Kontas and skipper Pat Cummins added 60 and 49, respectively, to help Australia draft a formidable total of 474 runs. Team India’s bowling guild tried to get things back on track, but Ravindra Jadeja claimed three wickets, which weren’t enough to stop the flow of runs.

Rohit Sharma and co responded with a strong fightback, covering most of the runs with Nitish Kumar Reddy drafting 114 and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 82. Despite efforts, the Indian side ended the innings at 369, with Scott Boland, Nathan Lyon, and Cummins working together to limit the hosts' score.

In the second inning of the game, the Aussies were another 234 runs, with Marnus Labuschagne being the top scorer with 70 runs, leaving India with a 340-run target to chase. Despite valiant efforts from opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, scoring 84 runs, the Aussie bowling attack didn’t allow other Indian batters to settle and got wickets at regular intervals for their side. Pat Cummins and Scott Boland led the attack, with Nathan Lyon in the supporting role as India was bowled out for a mere 155 runs.
