Bangla Tigers script history against Pakistan in the first test
Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets in the 1st test match
On Sunday, the Bangla Tigers created history, under the captaincy of Nazmul Hasan Shanto, Visitors Bangladesh defeated Pakistan in a Test match for the first time in the red ball format. First with amazing batting and then with miraculous bowling, Bangladesh registered its only seventh Test win on foreign soil. Before this, the Bangla Tigers have won Test matches only in the WI, ZIM, SL and NZ. On the fifth and final day of the 1st test match, when the match started, it seemed to be heading towards a draw, but Mehdi Hasan Miraz and Shakib-al-Hasan broke Pakistan's back by taking four and three wickets respectively.
This was Pakistan's fifth defeat in the last nine Tests played at home. During this period, the Hosts have not been able to win a single match. Out of the last nine matches, 4 matches have ended in a draw and Pakistan lost five matches. Following this result, the Bangla Tigers now have taken an unassailable lead of 1-0 in the two-Test match series. The second and last match will be played on this ground from August 30.
The Hosts PAK were asked to bat first and they declared their first innings at 448 runs for six wickets, collapsing to just 146 runs in its second innings on the last day of the 1st test match. Except for Mohammad Rizwan, no other batter showed intent to stay at the crease. After bundling up the hosts Bangla Tigers got a mere target of just 30 runs to win, which they easily achieved without losing any wickets.
The experienced wicket-keeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim played a scintillating innings of 191 runs first innings of the match. Along with this, he made a record partnership of 196 runs for the seventh wicket with Mehdi Hasan Miraz (77). His tremendous knock powered Bangladesh to end their first innings at 565 runs on the fourth day of the match. Rahim made all four Pakistani fast bowlers work hard in hot and humid conditions during his 196-run partnership with Mehdi Hasan Miraz. This was the highest partnership for the seventh wicket in a Test against Pakistan.
Earlier this record was in the name of Richard Hadlee and Warren Lees. This New Zealand pair had shared a 186-run partnership against Pakistan in Karachi 48 years ago (in 1976). Mushfiqur hit one six and 22 fours in 341 balls during his marathon innings of more than eight and a half hours, giving Bangladesh a huge lead of 117 runs in the first innings. This was also Bangladesh's third-highest score outside home.
