Bilbao clinched an important point against Barcelona

Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona had to settle for sharing the points after drawing a score of 0-0 in the La Liga 2023/2024 match 27 at San Mames on Sunday(03 March 2024). It was a tight contest as both teams had to settle with a point each, the Hosts Athletic and La Blaugrana both had opportunities, but no goals were scored by either team.

Thanks to this result, the Basques are stuck in fifth place in the standings with 50 points. Meanwhile, Barca is in third place with 58 points after 27 league games. The visitors were hit by injuries in the first half of the game and their two top players, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri, had to go down due to injury and they had to be pulled out. Entering the second half, Barca threatened several times through the actions of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha but that was not enough for the 27-time La Liga winners Barca to grab three crucial points. On the other hand, the eight-time Spanish league winner Bilbao held their nerves and broke down the visiting team's defense to not let Barca score any goal.

No goals were scored by either team until the referee blew the long whistle and a goalless draw was the final result of this match. This result somehow assisted in favour of table toppers Real Madrid and the second-placed Girona in the league as both the respective sides suffered in their last match. Real had to share a point against Valencia in a 2-2 draw, on the other hand, Girona was beaten by Mallorca 0-1 in their last match. Barca could have been easily on the second-placed if they had beaten Bilbao last night but now they are eight and 1 point away from both the mentioned teams in the league standings.
