Bavuma, Nortje set to miss the penultimate ODI against Australia
Temba Bavuma, Anrich Nortje set to miss the 4th ODI against Australia
South African speedster Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series against Australia because of a lower back injury whereas skipper Temba Bavuma will miss the penultimate (4th ODI) encounter on Friday in Centurion. Bavuma has picked a right adductor strain and his unavailability is just a “precautionary measure”
Aiden Markram will lead the misfiring South African unit that is trailing by 2-1 in the five match ODI series, after losing the T20I series 3-0.
Nortje had already not played the third ODI in Potchefstroom earlier this week. “He went through scans and consulted a specialist this week, and will likely begin bowling again this weekend under the supervision of the Proteas Medical team”, a CSA release stated. He only played just the second ODI in Bloemfontein where Nortje leaked 58 runs in five overs without any wicket to his name.
Having scored 57, 46 and an unbeaten 114 in the first three games of the series, Bavuma is South Africa’s leading run scorer so far. His overall tally of 217 is second only Marnus Labuschagne’s 219.
