Frustrated Bruno Fernandes reacts after holding Liverpool

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes reacted to his side's 2-2 Premier League draw against leaders Liverpool, stating that they are unable to deliver performances like this regularly.

Fernandes featured in the entire match, had an assist on Lisandro Martínez's opening goal and won the player of the match award for his performance. Nonetheless, he maintained a need to be more consistent going forward.

"I'm a bit unhappy because if we presented this today against Liverpool, why can't we do this every week?" Fernandes said after the match in an interview with Sky Sports. He stated that the team needed to improve their performance to achieve such goals they set for this season.

The draw is a much-needed point for United and head coach Ruben Amorim, especially after four consecutive defeats. This included league losses to Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Bournemouth.

Fernandes expressed confidence in his teammates' effort levels during the match, stating, "I wasn't worried about people putting in effort today because it’s Liverpool; everyone’s going to try their best. I’m more concerned about our upcoming fixture against Southampton after we face Arsenal in the FA Cup."

Reviewing the match, he appreciated their passion and grit: "It was about the real effort you put into the game. You have your tactics, but at the end of the day, you have to put in some effort, which is why we got something out of the game today."

He encouraged his teammates to take this frustration and performance level to future matches, as he insisted, "If we can do it at Anfield, we need to do it every week."

Head coach Ruben Amorim echoed Fernandes' sentiments, expressing frustration over the team's inconsistency. "I think I get more mad because of the other games. It's harder to understand some things. This isn't just about the system or technique; it's about something deeper," he said.

The United boss said, "We had this talk after beating City; we can talk, but we need to show it in our performances. The best thing is tomorrow we have training, and we have to maintain the same level of mentality."

Manchester United will face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the FA Cup third round and then host Southampton. United is currently 13th in the league table after 20 matches and will be looking to improve their standing in the coming weeks.
