Catalan Giants Lose 2-3 to Club America in a Friendly
Spanish footballing giants Barcelona, putting in a bunch of youngsters, lost 3-2 against Club America on Thursday in a friendly match in Dallas, Texas.
Just a day after snatching a nailbiting 3-2 win in La Liga against the bottom club Almeria on Wednesday. Barcelona netted goals from their youth icon Lamine Yamal in the 6th minute and thereafter Marc Guiu in the 28th minute of the game.
But Club America, the newly crowned Mexican league champions, bounced back with a brace from the Colombian winger Julian Quinones in the 12th and 50th minutes of the game. The death blow came in with Henry Martin who scored in the 82nd minute of the game to seal the victory at the Cotton Bowl.
The Blaugrana coach Xavi Hernandez used several players from Barca’s A team but five of the players were the same who kicked off in La Liga, 24 hours earlier, Joao Cancelo, Andreas Christensen, Fermin Lopez, Joao Felix and Robert Lewandowski.
“It was a great game, both America and Barcelona offered a spectacle, chances, goals and we gave opportunities to young and very young players,” Xavi told broadcaster TUDN. “The older ones… logically, we played a game yesterday and we were tired but I think people enjoyed it.”
The Catalan Giants which is under financial hardships will earn some $5 Million for the friendly game.
“We have to adapt to the economic situation of the club,” Xavi stated.
