Kiwi pacer Kyle Jamieson has been ruled out of cricket for over nine months.

Four-time Champion Chennai Team will have a massive blow before a month of the tournament. Pacer Kyle Jamieson was ruled out of cricket for over nine months due to back surgery. The Chennai team bought Jamieson at a price of ₹1Cr. The last two seasons of the Chennai Franchise in the Indian T20 League have been a topsy-turvy ride. They were at the bottom of the table in 2021 and had a massive bounce back in the next season last year by winning the trophy.

New Zealand’s pace all-rounder Kyle Jamieson, would have been essential to these preparations, but he won't be competing in the event this year. After a recurrence of an injury that will prevent Jamieson from playing competitive cricket for more than nine months, he will need back surgery. The 28-year-old will thus likely miss the 2023 Indian T20 League and the current two-Test series between New Zealand and England.

Jamieson played last in International Cricket against England at Nottingham in 2022. Kyle Jamison was earlier associated with the New Zealand XI for a practice match against New Zealand.  "It's been a challenging and difficult time for Kyle and a big loss for us," New Zealand coach Gary Stead on a Radio Interview.

In this year's mini-auction, Chennai Team purchased Jamieson for ₹1Cr. Indian T20 League season 2023 is set to start on March 31; thus, Jamieson won't likely be in-form for the whole competition, if not at least a large portion of it. "Many top-tier athletes have had back surgeries, and their recovery times vary. Since we know what a star Kyle has been for us, we want him to have the most significant recovery opportunity. Surgery allows for a speedier return to play, which is good news for him, "Stead said. New Zealand lost the first test against England by 267 runs. On February 24, the second Test is slated to start at Basin Reserve.
