Chennai Set to Host Ind T20 League 2024 Final on May 26

In an exciting development for cricket fans, Chennai has been chosen as the host city for the Ind T20 League 2024 final. The much-anticipated title match will take place at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium, popularly known as Chepauk, on May 26. This will be the third time that Chepauk has hosted an Ind T20 League final, with the previous occasions being in 2011 and 2012.

Adding to the excitement, Chennai will also host the second qualifier on May 24, while the first qualifier on May 21 and the eliminator on May 22 are scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad.

The second phase of the Ind T20 League schedule will commence on April 8, featuring 52 matches including the playoffs. The opening match of this phase will see Chennai, the defending champions, take on Kolkata at their home ground in Chennai. As is customary, all the playoff matches will be held in the evening.

Similar to the 2023 edition, the ten teams participating in Ind T20 League 2024 have been divided into two groups of five. Each team will play four matches against the other teams in their group, and they will face the remaining team from the other group twice. The team to be faced twice from the other group will be determined through a draw.

Chennai find themselves in a group alongside the 2022 Ind T20 League champions Gujarat,  Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Punjab. The second group consists of the five-time Ind T20 League champions Mumbai, Kolkata, Rajasthan, Delhi, and newly introduced Lucknow.

During the league phase, there will be a total of 11 double-header days, two of which have already taken place during the opening weekend.

Initially, the Ind T20 League released a partial schedule on February 22, featuring 21 matches from March 22 to April 7. However, the complete schedule was pending as the tournament organisers were awaiting the announcement of the dates for the general elections in India by the Election Commission. The general elections will take place in seven phases from April 19 to June 1.

Besides the home grounds of the ten teams, the Ind T20 League will also travel to Visakhapatnam, Dharamsala, and Guwahati, which will serve as the second home grounds for Delhi, Punjab, and Rajasthan respectively. Guwahati will host the final league game of the season on May 19, featuring a match between Rajasthan and Kolkata.

Cricket enthusiasts are eagerly looking forward to witnessing the Ind T20 League 2024 extravaganza, and with Chennai as the host city for the final, the anticipation and excitement are reaching new heights.
