Chris Gayle has his say on the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma
After Team India’s heartbreaking defeat in the World Cup ODI 2023 Final against Australia, the pens have shifted to the future of the top two run-getters of the tournament, i.e. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. As of the present scenario of budding cricketers displaying huge contributions at the highest stage, questions regarding the inclusion of these two stalwarts have emerged within the cricketing fraternity.
Since India’s exit in the World Cup T20 2022 Semi-Final against England, none of these two big names has participated in any shorter format of the game. In Rohit Sharma’s absence, Hardik Pandya was made the captain, and he steered the team with competence. Presently, the Indian Cricket Team are facing off Australia in the T20I format where Suryakumar Yadav is leading the Men in Blue while Hardik is injured and the other senior cricketers have been rested.
Former West Indies legend Chris Gayle has conveyed his ideology on the future status of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The ‘Universe Boss’ expressed that both of the cricketers have contributed immensely to their country and should be trusted with their own decision-making process regarding their future in international cricket.
“Those guys (Rohit and Virat) should make the call. They should give the opportunity to those guys to make the call, and if those guys want to do it, I am sure they will,” stated Gayle.
The Windies Great also underlined the outstanding service that Kohli and Rohit have delivered to Indian cricket, indicating that the duo deserves the liberty to decide their future ways. Expressing affection for their contribution on the field, Gayle also urged the cricketing fraternity to provide Kohli and Rohit, the level of respect they have earned.
“Why not? They have done incredible service, and they deserve to make a call of their own, I am sure they will be given that respect for what they have done for the country. It’s phenomenal and fantastic. So, Virat and Rohit should have the say, I wanna do it or I don’t wanna do it. Give them the ownership,” added the Universe Boss.
