Cop-Fan Clash in KOL vs MUM Match Goes Viral
Cop pushes back a Kolkata fan who tries to rob the match ball at Eden Gardens
Kolkata are having their dream run in this season of the Indian T20 League with Gautam Gambhir back into the groove but this time as the mentor. The Knights looked in red-hot form against Mumbai on Saturday, 11th May, in the rain-shortened match at the Eden Gardens. Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell, Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh and Ramadeep Singh’s joint effort led their side to a score of 157 runs in 16 overs.
On the other side, Mumbai Indians seemed to be having the upper hand at first but things changed after Ishan Kishan’s dismissal. The five-time champions lost the match by 18 runs to give Kolkata their Qualifying berth for the Playoffs. Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma were the only batters with 30-plus runs from the Mumbai guild.
During the match, a fan was spotted trying to steal the match ball at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, he was caught by a police officer, who grasped the ball from him with force and threw it back on the ground and the video of the act went viral on social media.
The fan dressed up in Rinku Singh’s jersey was later pushed back by the police officer. Kolkata supporters were surprised by the sudden rage and the cop’s aggressive behaviour towards an event which is quite common in a spectator sport.
