Copa America 2024

Final: ARG vs COL

Preview

The Copa America final is on the line this weekend as the World champions and trophy defenders Argentina face Colombia on Sunday, July 15 (05: 30 AM).

Los Cafeteros have been crowned the Champions of America only once before, back in 2001, and this time it’s quite remarkable as they failed to reach the final ever since.

On the other side, La Albiceleste are on their hunt to claim the coveted title for the record 16th time. As of now, the World Champions have the joint most titles with Uruguay.

The title defenders have conceded only one goal in this year’s tournament and got a surprise opponent in the form of Canada in the semi-finals. Lionel Messi scored his first goal in the tournament as his team cruised past the North American side to reach the finals.

Colombia led the Group D chart ahead of the nine-time champions Brazil before defeating the joint-most title winners Uruguay by one goal margin. The game was one of a kind as the fans clashed with the players causing chaos in the stands.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Match: ARG vs COL, Final, Copa America 2024

Date: Monday, 15th July, 2024

Time: 05:30 PM

Venue: Hard Rock Stadium, Miami

Team Updates

Argentina captain Lionel Messi recovered from a leg injury to play the full game against Canada in the Semis and is expected to do the same in Miami. Both Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez scored in Argentina’s win over Canada in the semi-finals. So it’s upto Lionel Scaloni to settle up Messi’s partner in the front. Notably, Lautaro is also the highest goalscorer this season which gives him the upper hand. Although the defence is well settled as Lisandro Martinez and Cristian Romero are the centre backs. The midfield will comprise of Nico Gonzalez and Giovani Lo Celso as Alexis Mac Allister gas proved his worth in the left wing of a 4-4-2 position.

On the other side, Colombo will be without their Crystal Palace defender Daniel Munoz as he was sent off following two yellows in the semi-final match against Uruguay. Santiago Arias should cover the side at the right back position. James Rodriguez, who recently surpassed Messi’s record for the most assists in a Copa America season, will be featuring alongside John Cordoba and Liverpool star Luis Diaz in the attacking position.

Head-to-Head (h2h) History

Argentina wins: 25

Colombia wins: 9

Draws: 8

Colombia have won just one of their previous 12 encounters with Argentina.

Match Prediction

It’s not much tough to say that the defending champions Argentina will retain their Copa America crown.

So it’s Argentina to win, 3-0 in the finals.
