Dale Steyn confirms exit as Hyderabad bowling coach

Former South Africa pacer, Dale Steyn announced that he would not return as Hyderabad's bowling coach for the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League.  However, he, added that he will continue in a coaching capacity with SEC in the SA20 League.

"A big thank you to Sunrisers Hyderabad for my few years with them as bowling coach at the Ind T20 League, unfortunately, I won't be returning for Ind T20 League 2025," Steyn stated in a post on X. "However, I will continue to work with Sunrisers East Cape in the SA20 here in South Africa."

Steyn earlier this year, had opted him out of the forthcoming season citing personal reasons and Hyderabad roped in former Kiwi cricketer James Franklin as their bowling coach to work alongside head coach Daniel Vettori.

The veteran pacer had represented now defunct Deccan Chargers, Bengaluru and now defunct Gujarat Lions in the Ind T20 League during his playing days. He is believed to have played a critical role in the success and development of Umran Malik and numerous other packers in Hyderabad ranks.

Hyderabad were the finalists in this edition of the Indian T20 League before losing the final to Kolkata. This was their first time when HYD made it to an Ind T20 League final since finishing runners-up in the year 2018 besides clinching the title in 2016. Hyderabad could look at retaining their coaching unit given their success under the Vettori-Franklin pair.
