Napoli earned a point against Roma in the Serie A clash

Daniele De Rossi admitted that the result AS Roma got against Napoli was not the result or performance he wanted. He underlined that his troops wasted too many opportunities in that match the Visitors had to settle for getting one point when they visited the defending champions' home in Week 34 of Serie A 2023/24 while competing at the Stadio Diego Maradona, on Sunday (28/4/2024), both teams played equally strong and ended with a scoreline of 2-2.

The Giallorossi took the lead after Paulo Dybala's penalty managed to tear Alex Meret's net. The home team immediately turned things around through goals scored by Mathias Olivera and Victor Osimhen. A minute before the match ended, Tammy Abraham's goal made Roma refuse to give up. With this draw, Napoli is in eighth place in the standings with 50 points. Meanwhile, Roma is in fifth place with 59 points with four matches remaining. After the match, AS Roma's head coach was not impressed with the performance of his team who wasted many opportunities in this match. He also asked the Roman players not to mourn for too long over the results they had achieved.

"We drew, this is not a result to mourn, but this is not the result or performance we wanted. Napoli is a very strong team," said De Rossi. "We are not sharp at the moment, but we have to be smarter and cleaner with the ball. Sometimes you can steal the ball from Napoli, but we give it back too often. "Napoli had a lot of chances in the first half, we played better in the second half, but we have to be better."

Leandro Paredes and Diego Llorente are suspended, with Romelu Lukaku, Chris Smalling and Rick Karsdorp absent, but according to De Rossi, the loss of the Argentine midfielder has greatly affected Roma's midfield performance. "This team was built without many players who are good at holding the ball in midfield, so it's very different when Leo [Paredes] is absent. Even so, we still have to do better. "Listen, we were tired, but we can't start thinking that we are tired and that means we could be embarrassed in the last few weeks of the season. "We had to get up and keep going because there are still many big games to be played."

De Rossi warned his players not to relax before the end of the season, especially with the first leg of the Europa League semi-final against the current German champions Bayer Leverkusen. "We are still ensuring the condition of the players, but we'll see tomorrow and the day after with more intense training sessions to ensure these problems have passed," concluded De Rossi.
