Danish Kaneria drops a bomb on the best batter controversy

Ex-Pakistan player Danish Kaneria stated that Shubman Gill is a far better batter when compared to the Pakistan starrer Babar Azam. The ‘Men in Green’ spinner was asked to choose between Gill and Babar, in which he chose the Indian opener. While Azam has been a seasoned player, Shubman is still a newbie to the sport when compared to him. 

Babar Azam has been confronting his poor form across all formats of the game for the last year. The right-handed batter managed to accumulate only 64 runs in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Previously, he also failed to impress in the 2023 ODI WC and the 2024 T20 WC. 

Former cricketing minds have urged him to take a break to regain his form. On the other side, Shubman Gill has been named India’s new vice-captain in the white-ball cricket format. Though he wasn’t a part of the Indian Cricket Team for the T20 WC 2024, the selectors feel Gill is the first choice as the future skipper. 

“Shubman Gill is a class batter and looks good while batting. You can’t trust Babar, as he can throw away his wicket anytime. He is not consistent.

“Shubman Gill hits spinners by charging down the track. Babar keeps looking at the deliveries bowled by spinners, and by the time he can read their lengths, his knocks end,” Danish Kaneria told in a podcast.

Gill is presently leading India A in the Duleep Trophy 2024 and will return to the Indian Cricket Team for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
