The Rohit Sharma era begins in Indian Cricket

Ever since Virat Kohli decided to step down from the T20I captaincy, the name of Rohit Sharma was always in the air. Few even advocated for KL Rahul because of Rohit’s age. However, the board clarified their plans for the future as the 5-time Indian T20 League winner, Rohit Sharma has been announced as the new captain of the Indian T20 team and with that a new chapter starts in Indian cricket.

For a long time now, many of the fans thought that Rohit should be given the baton because of his tremendous success as a captain in the shortest format of the game. Virat Kohli, the outgoing captain has led the team with a lot of passion and dedication and has been successful in the bilateral series’ but never could make it to the finals of a T20I World Series. Rohit will have a one year time in order to prepare his team for the next T20I World Series. The management has already taken some bold decisions for the upcoming New Zealand series and by the looks of it; a lot of things are changing in Indian Cricket.

Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja have been given some rest for the upcoming series. The board also decided to drop Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy and Mohammed Shami from the squad. Virat Kohli has been a strong advocate to select players who are fit enough to play in the Indian colors and now it looks like that the board will walk in the path shown by Virat.

It’s also important to note that Rahul Dravid will start his journey as the head coach of the Indian team from this series. The Rahul-Rohit duo will have few new players in the ranks who can prove to be world class players in the future. Thus, if groomed well, India will have plenty of options to choose from. One such player is Venkatesh Iyer. The left hander has been amazing with the bat in the Indian T20 League and has done relatively well in the bowling department. He has also been tremendous in the ongoing Indian domestic league. Thus, needless to say that he is a huge prospect for the Indian team. He can be a very important player in the future as well considering that India do not have enough players in their top order who can bowl some over’s. Thus, it will be interesting to see how Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma use his talent.

Another name that has created a lot of hubbub in Indian cricket is Harshal Patel. He has been the leading wicket-taker in the Indian T20 League and is a deserving name in the Indian Cricket Team. His performance in the upcoming series will be important in order to stay in the race for a spot in the Indian Team in the upcoming World Series.

Without a shadow of a doubt, there’s plenty to look forward to in the Rohit Sharma era. The roles that the individuals will have under Rahul Dravid are something that every Indian is looking forward to seeing. Another thing that will be under the scanner is to see whether any of the top order batsmen decides to rotate his arm for at least 2 overs.
