Deepak Chahar injury couldn't have come at a worse moment for CHE

CHE suffered another setback as ace pacer Deepak Chahar had to wobble off the field due to a hamstring injury during the Ind T20 League 2024 match against Punjab at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chepauk. CHE coach Stephen Fleming expressed concern over Chahar’s fitness, saying that the pacer’s injury does not look good. Chahar’s injury has added salt to CHE’s wounds who are already struggling to cope up with the unavailability of important bowling alternatives. Their strike bowler, Matheesha Pathirana is on the sidelines due to a niggle while Tushar Deshpande is out with flu. With Deepak Chahar’s iffy status, CHE’s bowling department faces a daunting challenge, increasing the team’s concerns about their defensive prowess.

Also, Fleming addressed the premature departure of Sri Lankan players for visa processing in hopes of a smooth return before their next fixture. In spite of the mounting challenges, including Deshpande’s flu, Fleming stressed on the team’s adaptability, underlining the need for comfort in role and game plans amidst the ongoing struggles.  Deepak Chahar doesn't look good. Initial feeling wasn't great. So we are waiting for more positive report. Physio and doctors will have a look. Sri Lankan boys are off to get visa. So we are hoping that their process is smooth. And we get them back for our next game up north (at Dharamshala). Richard Gleeson was good, he was positive. Tushar Deshpande got flu, so we had to make a few changes today, which is a bit unusual. But again that's part of it and we have got resources. It's just they haven't got time to be comfortable about their roles and us to be comfortable with the game plan that we are struggling with," CHE coach Stephen Fleming said.
