Delhi franchise reluctant to sign Sourav Ganguly as head coach: Reports
The Delhi franchise are not thinking of passing the head coach’s role to Sourav Ganguly after Ricky Ponting decided to part ways with the franchise. Despite the ex-Indian skipper’s interest in the role, Delhi management is dubious to assign him dual responsibilities as both the Director of Cricket and Head Coach, according to reports.
Sourav Ganguly, the ex-Indian cricket board president, presently serves as Delhi’s Director of Cricket. Overseeing the franchise’s sister teams namely Dubai Capitals in the ILT20 and the Pretoria Capitals in the SA T20 League comes under his responsibilities.
Reports mention that "Ganguly already has a lot of things on his plate – planning multiple things for the franchise as the Director of Cricket."
Delhi management believes that the team requires a very hands-on coach who actively keeps track of the cricket circuit, similar to Gambhir.
"The team needs a very hands-on coach who follows the circuit very aggressively. Like Gautam Gambhir does. It’s no surprise that he has been so successful as a mentor. He keeps track of players – both international and domestic," the source added.
The franchise wants to appoint a new head coach to acquire stability, especially before the mega auctions.
"The management doesn’t want a stop-gap arrangement for the head coach position as it’s the season right after the mega auction as the new cycle gets underway," the source defined.
