Real Madrid beat Leipzig by 1-0 in the UCL Clash

The 14-time UCL winners Real Madrid managed to steal a win during their visit to Red Bull Arena against Leipzig. Carlo Ancelotti's squad played effectively to secure the score of 1-0 on Tuesday, 13 February 2024 in the first leg of the last 16 of the 2023/2024 Champions League. The match was predicted to be fierce, even though Madrid was still the favourite and this time, Leipzig deserved appreciation because they managed to make things difficult for the visitors and fought back well. Madrid could only score one goal through Brahim Diaz's impressive action in the 48th minute which was enough for Los Blancos to take a victory in Germany.

This away win is valuable capital for Real Madrid who will face RB Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabeu in the second leg of the last 16 of the 2023/2024 Champions League on 06 March 2024. The match started with a surprise from Leipzig, Sesko scored a goal in the 3rd minute, an accurate header using a loose ball however, the goal was immediately disallowed for offside when the linesman raised the flag.

Even though there was no goal, Leipzig managed to surprise Madrid with their fast attack at the start of the match. Madrid seemed more careful in building attacks, 15 minutes had passed. In the 29th minute, a violent foul incident occurred on the field when Carvajal tackled Xavi Simons, and the referee chose play-on, but Simons lay down for a long time and Leipzig fans also shouted in protest.

Madrid's attacks were not dangerous enough to break down the opponent's defense. The Red Bulls also didn't let the visitors just control the ball as the score 0-0 closed in the first half of the game. Shortly in the second half, Los Blancos showed dominance and in the 48th minute, the visitors managed to steal the first goal. Courtesy of Carvajal's accurate pass on the right, Brahim Diaz showed individual action, outwitting several opposing players, entering the penalty box and sending a hard shot to the far post and Madrid took a 1-0 lead over the Hosts.

Conceding seemed to ruin Leipzig's game as the hosts made a fatal mistake midway through the second half, losing the ball in a dangerous area. Luckily, Rodrygo's shot went wide in the 72nd minute, and Madrid's attack managed to split the Leipzig defense. The 23-year-old Brazilian Vinicius faced one one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper, who shot at the far post, unfortunately, it hit the post.

There were no additional goals until the end of the match. Leipzig could not penetrate the visitors' defense and the match ended with a scoreline of 1-0 in favour of Madrid.
