Dion Nash Takes the Helm: Elected to New Zealand Cricket Board
Dion Nash elected to the New Zealand Cricket Board
New Zealand Cricket has picked former Black Cap player and national selector Dion Nash to its board.
Nash occupies the position vacated by Martin Snedden, who had to resign by rotation after a lengthy service to the board as a player, board member, chief executive, chair of the board and the International Cricket Board director.
“It's good to have someone with Dion's cricket and business experience coming onto the board at a time when Martin is stepping down," NZC chair Diana Pukepatu-Lyndon said. "Dion has a strong interest in not just the playing of the game but [also] the business of the game, and that should help stand us in good stead."
Nash made 32 Test and 81 ODI appearances for Kiwis between 1992 and 2002 and was an integral part of NZ’s title winnings squad in the 2000 Knockout, later rebranded as the Champions Trophy. In only his fifth Test, he scored a fifty and claimed ten wickets at Lord’s.
When regular skipper Stephen Fleming picked up an injury in early 1999, Nash stepped in as the captain for seven ODIs and three Tests. He was appointed as the selector for the men’s team in 2005 post-retirement, before deciding to make a career in the business.
