Elgar named Test Player of the Year at CSA awards

South Africa’s test skipper, Dean Elgar earned top honours at the annual CSA awards as he was named team’s test cricketer of the year. Laura Wolvaardat sweeped multiple honours in the women’s cricket, claiming T20I, ODI and Women’s player of the year titles. The virtual ceremony celebrating the success of these and a couple others will be held on August 14.

Elgar’s award is vastly because of a dream year in whites for the Proteas in which they ended without having lost a series.  They won a series away against West Indies, drew in New Zealand, produced a remarkable comeback against India to win the series by 2-1 before registering a hard fought victory against Bangladesh at home. SA are currently at the top of the test rankings and are also leading the World Test Series rankings.

It was also a breakthrough year for South Africa women, wherein they finished as semifinalists in the Women’s World Series in New Zealand. They have also retained their second position in ODI rankings. Wolvaardt who has been a key player in SA’s impressive run in 2022 bagged notable honours. Shabnam Ismail who was SA’s women player in 2021 finished second after Wolvaardt.
