Former India player compares Virat Kohli to these Tennis Legends
King Kohli is back in form in the most extended format of the game with a stunning century against the Kangaroos in the first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Nevertheless, his critics and fans who targeted him for his place in the team were questioned when the batter smashed just 93 runs on six innings in the previous Test series against New Zealand.
There were certain reports that he would be removed from the red ball format if he failed to produce good results in Australia.
But as usual, any of these chatters didn’t affect his performance. The former India player Sunil Gavaskar compared Kohli with the tennis legends Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal. He feels the ex-India skipper often comes into the headlines when he does not score a hundred despite his scores of 70-80 being considered failures.
“I said that Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafa Nadal are the winners. But when they lose in the semi-finals of any tournament, people say that they are not in form. If anybody else makes it to the semis, he is praised for his performance but not the three greats.
“It is similar to Virat Kohli. We are used to him scoring hundreds in international cricket, and when he doesn’t score a century, even if he is getting 70-80, which many players will be happy to get, people say he is not scoring runs and is out of form. This the reason why there was that feeling,” he stated.
