Former Pakistan cricketer takes a dig at Babar Azam captaincy in the Cricket World Cup 2023
“Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi, Misbah ul Haq,...would have won a World Cup with this kind of support: Ex-Paksitan star
The Pakistan Cricket Team’s poor performance under Babar Azam’s captaincy in the World Cup ODI 2023 has come under scan which also somehow pressurized the star batter to step down from his position. The Men in Green failed to qualify for the Semi-Finals of the marquee event and finished fifth in the league standings, which invited criticism from both their fans and the cricketing community. The team having talented cricketers like, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf suffered humiliating defeats in the hands of India, South Africa, Australia, England and even a pretty shocking loss against Afghanistan.
Ex-Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal expressed that if the likes of Shahid Afridi, Younis Khan, and Misbah-ul-Haq received the same amount of love and support as Babar Azam has received in the past three years, then they would have won the World Cup during their times.
"The amount of support Babar and this team got from fans in the last three years, had they shown the same support to Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi, Misbah ul Haq, these guys would have won a World Cup," stated Kamran Akmal in a viral video.
Also, Morne Morkel stepped down as the bowling coach of the side after their disappointing ODI World Cup run.
Former Pakistan pacestar Umar Gul is expected to replace Morne Morkel as he has worked before with the National side on an interim basis and also has experience guiding the Afghanistan side.
It is also worth mentioning that this was the third time on the roll that the Pakistan team has failed to enter the semi-finals in Cricket World Cup history.
