Glenn Maxwell’s domination fetches Australia a thumping victory against West Indies

Australia batter Glenn Maxwell blasted a fabulous ton as his side beat West Indies by a 34-run margin on Monday to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.

Maxwell came out with all guns blazing, scoring 120 runs off 55 balls with 8 sixes and 12 fours. He shared a 92-run partnership with Tim David (31 runs off 14 balls) to steer the hosts to a total of 241 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, which is to date the highest at the Adelaide, Oval. “We’re extremely lucky to have (Maxwell) in our team,” “He’s a match-winner, game-changer and people come to watch him,” said Australia skipper Mitch Marsh.

Big Show’s century came off just 50 balls and it was recorded as the fastest century in a T20I in Australia, surpassing South African Rilee Rossouw’s 52-ball ton against Bangladesh during the World Cup 2022. Maxwell also equalled the record of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma with his fifth T20I century.

The Caribbean side was derailed from a chance of levelling the series with their five wickets loss in the first seven overs. Although caught in a difficult situation, skipper Rovman Powell (63 off 36) and Andre Russell (37 off 16) gave the visitors a ray of hope.

Ultimately the huge total weighed too much for the Indies as the Australian bowlers were on a hunt for wickets. Marcus Stoinis took 3 for 36 along with debutant Spencer Johnson picking 2 for 39 which restricted the WI side to 207 runs at a loss of 9 wickets.
