Retentions: All you need to know about the Delhi franchise

As expected and reported by many news outlets, Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Nortje have been retained by the Delhi franchise. The likes of Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Ravichandran Ashwin and many have been let go. However, the co-owner of the franchise, Mr. Parth Jindal has stated that he will try to bring back as many players as possible.

While announcing about the retained players, Mr. Jindal expressed his anger as he said that the team has groomed so many players and they will now have a chance to play for some other team. He asked the board to change the rules as well.

Coming back to the team, Delhi has done their best. Of course they could retain one of Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer as both these players have intentions to lead the side. The other choice was between Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada and by the looks of it, they went after the pace. Letting Avesh Khan go was a big call for the franchise but they had no other option.

Coach Ricky Ponting previously expressed how he wants all the players to stay back. The good thing is that captain Rishabh Pant will get the opportunity to choose his bunch of cricketers. He is the future of Indian cricket and a lot will depend on him from this time.
