Ind T20 League 2024 playoff scenarios: Hunt for the final spot

The washout in Hyderabad (HYD) means the 2016 champions join Rajasthan (RAJ) and Kolkata (KOL) (confirmed first) as three of the four teams going into the playoffs. The focus now shifts to the last available spot as well as the prized second place on the points table. Here are the teams in the hunt

The one point earned during the washout against Gujarat took Pat Cummins and co into the playoffs. However, the chances of them finishing in the top two are slim as it is no longer in their own hands. They will have to rely on other results in order to find a spot in Qualifier 1.

Rajasthan can just edge past Hyderabad with 18 points as compared to Hyderabad’s 15, who after emerging victorious in their final fixture can only get to 17 points.

Rajasthan
Played: 13, Points: 16, NRR: 0.273
Remaining Matches: KOL (H)

Rajasthan will definitely take the second place if they defeat Kolkata on Sunday. If they lose, they can hold on to Number 2 if HYD get no more than one point from their final fixture, and if Chennai (CHE) get no more than a point against Bengaluru (BLR). If HYD’s game is washed out again, they will have fewer wins than RAJ, which is the first tie-breaker ahead of the net run rate if both sides land on equal points.

However, RAJ could fall to fourth position if they lose to KOL, HYD beat PUN, and CHE defeats BLR.

Bengaluru
Played: 13, Points: 12, NRR: 0.387
Remaining Matches: CHE (H)

Bengaluru (BLR) has a very clear task on their hands:

Presuming a score of 200, they need to beat CHE by 18 runs or hunt down the total with nearly 11 balls to spare. A washout will dash their playoff hopes, while a reduced game will also make their task more arduous as they will still require to win by the similar margin to edge past CHE on net run rate.

Chennai
Played: 13, Points: 14, NRR: 0.528
Remaining Matches: BLR (A)

CHE needs only a point to go through the next round, which means a washout will be sufficient. However, if they win, they have a chance of moving up to second place if RAJ lose, and if HYD get no more than one point from their final game.
