The schedule of the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 League is likely to be announced in phases. It is learnt that the Governing Council chaired by Arun Singh Dhimal amidst finalising everything and the inaugural phase schedule of the lucrative league will soon be out.
“We have been discussing internally and have more or less figured out the schedule but a final announcement is likely to happen the moment we get clarity and necessary clearances from the Home Ministry and Election Commission of India on the polling schedule,” according to a source mindful of the developments.
The thought of moving the tournament out of the nation due to elections has been dismissed and the entire league will be played in India itself. Alike the 2019 season of the Ind T20 League, which overlapped with the General Elections, the schedule will be released in phases and the schedule of the starting few games will be set forth before the complete schedule- including the qualifiers, eliminator and final- is announced.
“The schedule will be announced in phases. Like it happened in 2019. For the first few games of each team, we will release the schedule soon and then we get more clarity on polling schedule and other important dates, we will announce the remainder,” the source added.
Just in 2019, the General Elections will be held in seven phases and the Indian Cricket Board announced the schedule of the starting two weeks of the Indian T20 League. It is, although, dependably learnt that the Indian cricket board, Ind T20 League GC and franchises have had talks around the tentative scheduled to commence towards the end of March.
India are presently playing a five test match series against England followed by a week’s rest for the two sides to prepare themselves for the T20 spectacle. Given the showpiece event is fast approaching, this World Cup will be of paramount importance.
Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah in an interaction on the sidelines of an event said all national selectors will be seen during Ind T20 League games at different venues and added the call on a new selector will be taken soon.
The Indian Cricket Board medical and National Cricket Academy will also be keeping close tabs on the players to manage their workload. Shah said that like previous editions, all franchises will have no other alternative but adhere to what the “supreme body” says.
“Franchises will have to follow whatever the Indian Cricket Board decides. The Indian Cricket Board is the supreme body. We are above the franchises,” said Shah.
