IND tour of WI 2023
WI vs IND, 2nd T20

Preview

The Hosts are now all geared up to take on team India in the second T20I match on Saturday, 06 August at 08:00 PM from Providence Stadium, Guyana, West Indies. WI's would be happy after beating Men in Blue in the first T20I match of the five-match series on Thursday.

The Hosts, led by the inspirational performance of all-rounder Jason Holder, executed a remarkable second-half turnaround. And WI successfully defended their total of 149/6 to secure a 1-0 lead in the T20I series over the Visitors. Despite challenging batting conditions in the last fixture, Hardik Pandya-led IND struggled during the latter part of their chase and only debutant Tilak Verma produced some runs from his bat. Although the left-handed fast bowler Arshdeep Singh posed a threat to the Hosts' efforts in the final overs, all-rounder Romario Shepherd's performance was sufficient to leave India five runs shy of victory while defending 10 runs.

WI's skipper Rovman Powell was previously left out in the one-day series, played a crucial role, top-scoring with 48 off 32 balls smashing 3 fours and 3 sixes. The Caribbean's total, it turned out, was more than sufficient, as the combined experience of Holder, the craftiness of Akeal Hosein, and the determination of Shepherd allowed them to defy a recent trend. WI has struggled against India in T20Is over the past five years, making this victory even sweeter for them.

It would be a matter of concern for the number one side in the world whose key batters are performing well in the series so far. The number one T20I batter Suryakumar was not looking in good touch in the last match and only managed to score run-a-ball while chasing the target of 150. Both the Indian openers failed to dominate the WI's bowlers and went out cheaply on the score of Ishan(06) and Gill(03). The 20-year-old debutant Tilak Varma was the star of the show for team India who pummeled 39 off 22 balls, hammering 2 fours and 3 sixes with a staggering strike rate of 177.27.

The lower middle order batters including Indian skipper Hardik Pandya(19), Sanju Samson(12), and Axar Patel(13) all three of them failed to rescue team India in the first match of the series. It is going to be a real test for team India to avenge against the Hosts in the second T20I to make a solid statement against a proper-looking WI side.

Pitch and Weather Report

Providence Stadium has a capacity of 15000 spectators and has hosted 2 Tests, 25 ODIs & 27 T20Is before this match. It is a home venue for the Caribbean team Guyana Franchise. The venue in Guyana is known for offering a pitch that tends to be on the slower side and favours spin bowlers. The surface often assists spinners due to the dry and abrasive nature of the pitch, making it conducive for them to grip the ball and extract turns. The pitch usually gets slower as the game progresses, which can make timing shots difficult for the batsmen.

The weather will be cloudy and the temperature will range between 25 and 30. The wind will be flowing from the west at 10-12 kmh on the match day between WI and IND.

Match Prediction

The last time WI and IND played on this track, the Visitors registered 7 wicket victory over the hosts. But none of the players from that squad are currently in the playing XI. WI's Powell was the only player from that game who scored 32 off 20 balls. But this result won’t matter in deciding the fate of this second T20I match. IND has won 10 matches in 12 games against WI since 2017. The 4-run win has given WI side a confidence boost. Hardik Pandya-led IND will likely make some changes after a narrow loss.

IND has 6 wins and a tie in the last 11 T20Is they played. The Hosts are running through a decent form in this format with just 5 wins in the last 11 matches. The left-handed batter Nicholas Pooran’s form will be the key for them to stop India from winning yet another series. But we say IND to win this match and make a solid statement against the Hosts.
