With New Zealand winning their match against Afghanistan on Sunday, India officially ruled out of the World T20 Series. Against a weak yet determined Namibia side, they don’t really have anything to hold on or to prove. The players have looked in good touch in the last couple of matches. Namibia on the other hand can cause the upset of the decade. Can they? Let’s dissect.

The morale in the Indian dressing room is pretty bad. It’s been easy for them in the last couple of matches because they haven’t faced an opponent that could give them something to fight for. Can Namibia change that? Yes, the question is ridiculous for most of them and it should be. However, two players can actually cause a lot of damage to India. India’s top order struggles against the left arm pacers. Some even claimed that Rohit Sharma was playing in the first down position against New Zealand because of Trent Boult. Even if we don’t count that, we have seen that India struggle against left hand quick bowlers like Boult, Mitchell Starc, Shaheen Afridi and so on! Thus, a certain Ruben Trumpelmann can give Indian top order something to be afraid of. Another player that Indian players need to be ready for is David Weise. Namibia should also promote him and give him a chance to bat for the majority of the innings. He can definitely make an impact and change the fate of a match. If not today, then maybe in the future. The boy has tremendous potential.

With nothing on the line, India can alternate some of the players and give a chance to Rahul Chahar, Ishan Kishan and Buvneshawar Kumar. Their early exit from the competition can never be a question on the ability of the players but maybe the strategy altogether. Against Pakistan, India was completely outclassed and against New Zealand, their slow batting rate cost them the match.

It’s important to realize that this will be Virat Kohli’s last game as a captain of a t20 game. He gave away Indian t20 League captaincy in the last month and against Namibia he will be captaining the Indian t20 side for one final time. If reports are to be believed, he could very well captain his last game in the white ball cricket. No one knows what’s going to happen but it’s sure that more than anything; the nation is waiting for his 71st century. Against Namibia, the stage is set. He can but can he?
