India to rest these key players for the T20I series against Bangladesh

Team India vice-captain Shubman Gill is expected to be rested for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh commencing on October 6. The selection committee states that they want to manage his workload and hence want him to rest.

The young dynamic opener is India’s No.3 in Test cricket and will play a pivotal role alongside other players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the 10 Test matches that they will play in 2024.

Other than Gill, pace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will also be not considered for the selection due to the three-match Test series against New Zealand.

“Shubman Gill will be rested for the T20Is against the visiting Bangladesh. The matches will be played on October 7 (Gwalior), 10 (Delhi) and 13 (Hyderabad), and the first Test against the Kiwis starts on October 16.

“So there is a gap of just three days between the T20I series and the opening game against New Zealand. So, it is important to rest, Gill.” an Indian Cricket Board source stated.

The management is not giving any importance to T20I games as the World Test Series is the top priority on their list.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, these major players have already retired from the shortest format of the game. It will be fascinating to see if keeper-batter Rishabh Pant plays in the series against Bangladesh, as he has been recalled to play the Test series against Bangladesh. In case he is dropped, Ishan Kishan will be the most potential player who will be chosen to play in international cricket after a very long time.
