Expect a cracker of a contest in the Indian T20 League 2024 as batting powerhouses Delhi (DEL) and Kolkata (KOL) square off in match 16. DEL defeated defending champions Chennai in their last game, and Rishabh Pant & co will feel confident. KOL has won two out of two games played so far. They battered Bengaluru in their most recent clash. 

KOL batters have been in superb form. The side has plenty of depth in their batting lineup and has used it ably in the tournament. DEL has been inconsistent with bat in hand and possesses a few gaping holes in their bowling prowess. It will be an intriguing contest as the hosts won’t let KOL have it easy. 

Rishabh Pant struck a breezy fifty after two disappointing outings. It was a good batting effort from Pant & co in their last game against the men in yellow, where they secured a 20 run win. Their bowlers also did well against a potent batting lineup. The DEL skipper would want to see a similar kind of performance from his players in the game, as KOL is flying high and  full of confidence. 

The side will once again rely on the David Warner-Prithvi Shaw duo to provide them with a flying start as they did the other day where they put up a 93-run stand. Rishabh Pant will look to anchor and hold the innings together in the middle overs with Mitchell Marsh and Tristan Stubbs. Axar Patel and Abhishek Porel comprise the lower middle order.   

Khaleel Ahmed was excellent, and he will look to take early wickets along with veteran speedster Ishant Sharma. Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje have a crucial job in the middle overs, as KOL possess power hitters in their ranks. Rasikh Dar Salam, Mukesh Kumar and Mitchell Marsh must keep a check on the scoring rate. 

Shreyas Iyer’s team looks in good nick and has made a scintillating start to the season. They have won two out of two games and sit at the top of the league standings. It was an emphatic show from their batters in the last game against Bengaluru, winning by 7 wickets. Iyer would look to carry on this momentum and build confidence for the remainder of the season. 

Philip Salt and Sunil Narine played superbly against BLR, and the pair will want to deliver a good start in this game. Venkatesh Iyer looked excellent in the last game and will want to contribute with bat in hand and lay a foundation for the likes of Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh and Andre Russell.      

The bowling department hasn’t found its rhythm, and the side will require early wickets from Harshit Rana, Mitchell Star, as DEL have a formidable batting lineup. Vastly experienced Sunil Narine will look to keep the DEL batters quiet and try to chip in wickets during the middle overs. The spin twin of Varun Chakaravarthy and Anukul Roy has struggled, and the side will hope for a better performance from the two.

Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Stadium, Visakhapatnam, has a remarkable batting surface. Batters can freely play their strokes and trust the bounce and pace on this wicket. Pacers have struggled on this track, but spin bowlers can do well as the ball grips and turns sharply. 

In the last game, the wicket deteriorated in the second half.

Rishabh Pant led Delhi has struggled with consistency. The middle order and the bowling front has not been in the best of form. Their bowlers cannot afford to falter against a menacing KOL batting unit. KOL batters are in great form and have relatively more depth in the batting, making them favourites.
