The Indian T20 League 2024 playoffs are set to kick off on Tuesday, May 21 with Kolkata (KOL) and Hyderabad (HYD) squaring off in the Qualifier 1. KOL have been one of the most formidable sides in this edition of the competition with nine wins and three losses to their name. They, however, have not played an Ind T20 League game since their 18 run win over Mumbai (MUM). Both of their last games were washed out without a ball being bowled. In their last match against MUM, KOL were bowling first after losing the toss. The men in purple and golden posted 157 runs in 16 overs, thanks to a 42 run knock from Venkatesh Iyer. The next half saw Andre Russell, Harsh Rana and Varun Chakravarthy combine for six scalps, restricting MUM to 139/8 and hence securing an easy win. The two time champions will now be striving to extend their imperious run against Pat Cummins and co for a chance to make the final. 

HYD, on the other hand, defeated Punjab (PUN) by 4 wickets in their last match. Batting first PUN posted a competitive total of 214 in their quota of 20 overs. HYD chased down the total with 5 balls to spare sealing their spot in Qualifier 1. Abhishek Sharma led the run chase with a quickfire 28 ball 66. The men in orange will be hoping to continue their belligerent run with bat in hand on Tuesday. In the bowling department, HYD possess the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Natrajan, Cummins.
