James Rodriguez breaks Lionel Messi's record for most assists in a single Copa America season

James Rodriguez drafted his sixth assist against Uruguay in the semi-final of the Copa America 2024. With this assist, he surpassed Lionel Messi as the player with the most assists in a single season in the tournament’s history.

La Pulga earlier had the record for most assists in a single Copa America season where he bagged five assists during La Albiceleste's first title-winning campaign in 2021.

Rodriguez kicked off his campaign with two assists in Colombia’s first group-stage match against Paraguay. Then he went on to get another one against Costa Rica and another two in the Quarter Final clash versus Panama before hitting the record-breaking one against Paraguay in a decider.

His assist from the corner found Jefferson Lerma in the box who headed the ball to the back of the net. Colombia with that single goal in the 39th minute of the game defeated Uruguay to reach the finals. Now they would face the World Champions Argentina on Monday, July 15 (05:30 AM).
