Jay Shah assures Rohit Sharma to captain the Indian side at the marque event in the Caribbean Island and the USA

Indian prime opener Rohit Sharma, who led India to the final of the Men’s World Cup 2023 will also be captaining the T20 World Cup 2024 which will be held in the Caribbean Islands and the USA.

The Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah assured that Rohit would lead the T20I side and expressed his belief in India’s success at the event.

“We may have lost the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, but we won hearts thereby winning 10 matches in a row,” Jay Shah expressed while speaking at the Niranjan Shah Stadium event in Rajkot before India’s third Test versus England.

He also added, “I am confident that India will lift the 2024 T20 World Cup under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy at Barbados,”.

The 36-year-old right-handed batter has only participated in three T20Is since the end of the previous edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia back in 2022. Previously, he scored back-to-back ducks in two of the games, before smashing a record-breaking 5th century in the final T20I against Afghanistan.

Hardik Pandya, who had the most chances of leading the side in the T20Is in Rohit’s absence is presently undergoing rehab for his ankle injury that made him stay out of the game for most of the ODI World Cup 2023.
