Jesse Lingard in Trouble: Scooter Incident Lands Him a Fine
Lingard Penalized for Riding Scooter Without License
Former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard reportedly had to deal with the police in South Korea because of an E-Scooter. Lingard tried his luck in the South Korean League, K-League, he joined the FC Seoul club and he was recruited in February 2024. Previously, the 31-year-old Lingard left Nottingham Forest as a free agent in 2023.
So far he has only played 18 times and scored a goal, his playing time was minimal because he was injured. Amid his busy schedule defending FC Seoul, Jesse Lingard was hit by problems off the field, he had to deal with the local police. This is related to his action riding an E-Scooter as reported by The Korea Times, via The Sun. Lingard initially uploaded a video of himself riding an E-Scooter on the streets of Seoul. However, the video was later deleted by the 31-year-old midfielder.
But his actions caught the attention of the police because Lingard was considered to have violated the rules of using an E-Scooter. In South Korea, people who ride E-Scooters without a license will be fined around 10,000 KMR. While those who do not wear helmets will be fined 20,000 KMR.
Lingard himself rode the E-Scooted without a helmet. It is also unknown whether he has a driving license to drive it. That is why the local police are investigating the case. After that Jesse Lingard seemed to realize his mistake but he also gave his defense via a video on his Instagram account. He admitted that he did not understand the rules in South Korea. Lingard then warned others not to make the same mistake as him. "I was riding an e-scooter yesterday, riding around for a few minutes on it. I didn't know the rules about wearing a helmet or having a driver's license," he admitted.
"In the UK, and probably in Europe, you can pick up an e-bike or e-scooter off the street and start riding." For anyone visiting South Korea, of course, you should check the rules. It can be dangerous. Safety comes first for everyone. Wear a helmet and of course, I wouldn't do it again," he said.
