Former Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami is all set to join the Mumbai-based franchise in the Women's IND T20 League as a mentor and bowling coach. The former Indian fast bowler retired from international cricket in September 2022 after playing her last game at the iconic Lord's.
The Cricket Board of India officially announced the launch of the Women's IND T20 League earlier this month, and five out of 17 bidders managed to successfully bid for a franchise in the tournament. While India win Sports Pvt. Ltd bagged the Mumbai franchise for Rs 912.99 crore, as the process saw a total bid of Rs 4669.99 crore.
Although no official confirmation has been made by the Mumbai franchise yet, media reports have revealed Goswami's inclusion in the team's coaching unit. Former Indian Cricket Board President Sourav Ganguly has also confirmed that she will now be a part of Delhi based franchise in the Women's IND T20 League as the team director. 50-year-old Ganguly said, “Jhulan has gone to Mumbai. We had offered her, but she is going to Mumbai."
Earlier news was coming that both Jhulan and Mithali were keen to return to the field for the inaugural Women's IND T20 League season. Delhi-based T20 franchise had been eyeing Goswami for a long time. Since last year, the Capitals have kept Goswami on their radar to take over as the bowling coach for the upcoming IPL 2023 season.
While Jhulan has joined the Mumbai franchise, long-time partner and former team India's skipper Mithali Raj was officially announced as the team mentor of the Women's IND T20 League franchise Gujarat. Indian women's cricket team is going to be seen in a big role in the Women's IND T20 League 2023 after the retirement of both the legends of Indian cricket.
The 40-year-old Goswami also has a long experience playing International cricket. She has won team India many unforgettable matches with her amazing bowling. Her numbers are quite impressive in the Women's T20 International, she has taken 56 wickets in 68 matches.
