Liverpool beats Tottenham by 4-3 in the EPL

The Reds struggled to beat the Lilywhites in Week 34 of the 2022/2023 Premier League at Anfield Stadium on Sunday. The duel took place very excitingly. A 7-goal thriller was produced by both teams and the Spurs almost thwarted Liverpool's victory. 

Liverpool’s goals were scored by Curtis Jones, Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota. Tottenham's goals were produced by Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Richarlison which were not enough for the Spurs to cross the line against the Reds. With this result, Liverpool got 56 points from 33 matches and move up to fifth place in the EPL points table. Meanwhile, Tottenham Spurs dropped to sixth place with 54 points from 34 matches.

Klopp’s men tried to control the course of the game as soon as the game started. Tottenham, of course, also tried to provide resistance.

But Liverpool immediately made a good start. In the fourth minute, they were able to break through Tottenham's goal. Trent crossed to the far post from the right halfspace. There was already a freestanding Curtis Jones. With a first-time shot with his left foot, he was able to break into the Spurs' goal and make it 1-0.

Liverpool then quickly scored again in the sixth minute. They attack from right halfspace again through Cody Gakpo. He entered the penalty box and then gave Luis Diaz a pullback. With one kick, the ball entered from a narrow gap on the left side of Spurs’ goal and took a 2-0 lead.

Liverpool then continued to control the game. The Reds continued to find gaps in the Tottenham defense. In the end, Liverpool got a golden opportunity in the 13th minute. They were awarded a penalty after Cristian Romero tackled Gakpo in the forbidden box. Perfect execution was then carried out by Salah. He paid for his mistake in the execution of the previous penalty. This time Salah was able to outwit Fraser Foster easily and make it 3-0 for the Reds.

In the 21st minute, Liverpool got another chance. This time from Salah's curling kick from the edge of the penalty box. But the ball widened to the right side of the Spur’s goal. After that, the performance of Harry Kane et al improved. The duel then took place quite tough. 

Tottenham finally got a slick chance in the 39th minute. Son gets mature feedback from the right flank. He outwitted Konate and Allison in the penalty box. He fired a shot at goal but Virgil van Dijk managed to produce a crucial block. But in the 39th minute, the Spurs finally scored. Perisic successfully outwitted Van Dijk on the left flank from a counterattack. He then sent a cross into the middle. There was already Kane. With his first right foot kick, he successfully broke into the Liverpool goal to open the account for the Visitors by making it 3-1.

In the 41st minute, the Spurs had another tight opportunity. Robertson was asleep and the ball was dispossessed by Kulusevski. He entered the penalty box and after outwitting Konate, Kulusevski fired a shot at the goal. But Alisson was still able to thwart the opportunity with his left foot. In the end, the match ended without any additional goals.

Tottenham's game improved in the second half. Liverpool on the other hand continues to try to add to its goals. The Spurs then got a golden opportunity in the 53rd minute. From the counterattack, Son got the chance to open fire after outwitting the Liverpool defenders. But the ball still hit the left goal post only.

However, Liverpool even conceded again in the 77th minute to reduce its lead to 2-3. Son escaped the offside trap and welcomed Romero's long ball. He was then easily able to beat Alisson. As the substitution paid off for the Visitors, Richarlison was able to score a goal in 90+3 minutes from a header. He took advantage of Son's free-kick from the left flank to levelling the score to 3-3.

However, in the 90+4 minute, the Anfield crowd cheered for the home team. Diogo Jota successfully scored with his left-foot shot from inside the penalty box and he took advantage of Lucas Moura's mistake when trying to secure the ball to seal a famous win 4-3.
