Kapil Dev praises for Team India's skipper ahead of the semi-final vs England
1983 WC winner Kapil Dev came out in all praises on present Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for his leadership role and calm nature in the World T20 League 2024. The veteran Indian skipper drew a line between Rohit Sharma’s and Virat Kohli’s captaincy. The ‘Hitman’ has led his team from the front in the marquee event. Team India are in the semi-final of the World T20 League for the second straight time. They will cross swords with defending champions England for the second semi-final match at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
Rohit has made very cheeky field placements and used his bowling options wisely throughout the league so far. Despite tough conditions in New York, the Men in Blue has won all their matches so far. Rohit is India’s top run-getter with 191 runs in 6 games at an average of 38.20 and a strike rate of 159.17. He smashed 92 runs when playing their last Super8 match against Australia to help his side put up a fighting total and later reach the semis.
Kapil Dev also mentioned that Rohit Sharma united the players as a leader and avoided unnecessary aggression on the field.
“Rohit doesn’t play like Virat Kohli and he also doesn’t jump around like him. He is aware of his limitations and there is no better player than him,” said Kapil at an event.
The former Indian skipper also said that the 37-year-old doesn’t emphasise individual milestones but rather thinks of the team.
“There are big players who care for their records and even their captaincy styles are impacted by their selfishness. Rohit is different because he keeps everyone together and happy,” he added.
Notably, Team India were defeated by England in the Semi-Final of the World T20 League in 2022. Rohit and his boys would look forward to avenging that painful defeat in this fixture.
