Kolkata sign Jason Roy for Ind T20 League 2023

Kolkata have acquired the services of England’s Jason Roy for INR 2.8 crore for the remainder of Ind T20 League 2023. Roy’s base price was set at INR 1.5 crore but didn’t find any buyers in the 2023 mini auction. 

The signing comes following Kolkata’s setbacks on the personnel front. Regular skipper Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the season, and the WTC final that follows, with a back surgery due in London and Bangladesh all rounder Shakib Al Hasan has opted out of the competition. 

Roy has earlier featured for four Ind T20 League franchises- Kolkata, Delhi, Gujarat and Hyderabad. His last appearance came in the 2021 season for Hyderabad, where he scored 150 runs in five games including a half century. 

The explosive opener has represented his nation in 64 T20Is, aggregating 1522 runs at a strike rate of 137.61 with 8 fifties.
