Records a plenty for Nepal as they rout Mongolia in the Asian Games opener

Kushal Malla smashed the fastest T20 hundred to headline Nepal’s memorable and colossal 273 run win over Mongolia in their Asian Games fixture.

A few other notable records that were created today include- highest team total (314/3) in T20 cricket, fastest T20 fifty (9 balls) by Dipendra Singh, and the biggest victory margin in T20 cricket.

The innings commenced relatively sedately as openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh were both dismissed inside 8 overs. The two batters nearly scored at slower than run-a-ball   but were aided by the extras gifted by Mongolia’s bowlers with the new ball.

Rohit Paudel then joined the crease with Kushal Malla to put on an extraordinary 193 run stand. They provided the impetus to the Nepal innings and ensured the Cardiac Kids crossed the 300 run mark.  Malla reached his century in just 34 balls, going past the previous fastest T20 hundred record of 35 balls, which was jointly held by India’s Rohit Sharma, South Africa’s David Miller and Czech Republic's Sudesh Wickramasekara.

The fourth wicket stand, which remained unbroken and provided the final blitz, overshadowed everything that was on display. The stand collected 55 runs in 11 balls at a whopping strike rate of 500, of which Dipendra Singh clobbered eight sixes in a record nine ball fifty.

Mongolia in reply were bundled out for 41 runs with only one batter managing double figures and not a single partnership surpassing 9. The batters compiled all of 18 runs in the innings (which comprised 5 ducks), but the 23 extras pushed the total to 41.

A jaw dropping 52 runs were yielded via extras in this match, as Mongolia suffered a massive 273 run defeat against Nepal.

Brief Scores: Nepal 314-3 in 20 overs (Kushal Malla 137*, Rohit Paudel 61, Dipendra Singh 52*, Luvsanzundui Erdenebulgan 1-47) beat Mongolia 41 all-out in 13.1 overs (Davaasuren Jamyasuren 10, Karan KC 2-1, Abinash Bohara 2-2, Sandeep Lamichhane 2-7) by 273 runs
